The Clifton Inn, in Charlottesville, Virginia, has long been a favorite wedding venue amongst brides, hosting more than 100 weddings annually. Tucked beneath towering trees at the end of a winding, gravel drive, the picturesque white manor house with its handsome columns is a beautiful backdrop for weddings in Central Virginia. With an elegant warmth and nostalgic grandeur akin to a royal country manor, The Clifton Inn seamlessly blends the world-class service and exquisite dining one would expect from a Relais & Châteaux caliber hotel with the intimacy and personalization of a private estate.
With beautiful mountain vistas, Clifton’s 100 acres offers a variety of settings from a permanent tent foundation on site – with a dance floor customized to match the wedding colors, to a striking wine cellar that makes a truly unique rehearsal dinner setting.
At Clifton, our creative and talented pastry team understands that when it comes to the cake, it’s all about personal style, preference and, of course, taste!
Clifton exclusively uses callebaut chocolate from Belgium, feuilletine (in the crunch layers), dutch processed cocoa, vanilla beans from Madagascar, Virginia maple syrup, local fruits whenever the seasons allow, European style butter, fresh eggs, brewed espresso, artisan mascarpone from Wisconsin, natural extracts, and fine liqueurs.

The Clifton Inn was an amazing place to get married. They exceeded our expectations the entire weekend. We looked at four possible venues in Charlottesville and we are so happy we chose Clifton Inn. Instead of one day with our guests we had an entire weekend.
Clifton Inn is the epitome of top of the line wedding venues. The house and their grounds are beautiful, their staff are warm and welcoming, their food is absolutely amazing, and overall, they pay attention to all of the details. Their wedding coordinator worked with my planner to ensure that everything was what Greg and I wanted
We are so happy we chose to have our June 7 wedding at the Clifton Inn. The venue was beautiful and the service was first class through and through. We chose to rent the entire property (17 rooms) so that we would have exclusive use of the inn and its grounds from Friday night through Sunday morning. This allowed us to have our wedding party and close family friends stay with us onsite for the whole weekend and it really made the weekend special. Clifton is not set up like your typical … wedding venue – there’s no large banquet hall – so if you have more than 100 people and want dinner to be served in the house, as we did, your guests will likely be split among the dining room, veranda, and back terrace. We loved this setup, but it can be a little quirky and pose some challenges for things like speeches. We loved that we were able to use the whole beautiful property – with our ceremony on the croquet lawn (which was hot in the summer sun, but still beautiful), cocktails on the front lawn, dinner in the main house and on the back terrace, and dancing on the back lawn. Each location was uniquely beautiful and Clifton’s landscaping was absolutely stunning. We cannot say enough good things about the inn's general manager, Niall Reid, and his team. Everyone from the receptionists to the wait-staff to the bartenders was exceptionally professional and made our guests feel incredibly welcome. During the wedding weekend, the Clifton team overlooked no detail – from making sure the bride and groom had hot food to eat after being pulled aside for photos to helping us decorate the inn with family photos to give the venue a more personalized feel. They also facilitated an impromptu after-party at the pool at 11 p.m. and quickly brought out extra eggs and bacon on Sunday morning when 50 more guests than expected arrived for Sunday brunch (a testament both to Clifton’s excellent food and service and the fact that our guests really did not want to leave). All in all, we were thrilled with our Clifton wedding and can’t wait to return to the inn for special occasions in the future. Read More
We loved getting married at the Clifton Inn. They really know their business, and made our experience really easy and enjoyable. They provided us with a wedding planner, Kaitlyn Hoy, who took all the guesswork out of planning and set-up the day of. We brought all of our DIY flowers and decorations, and they took care of the rest. We even decided the day before to move the location of the ceremony, and they were completely helpful and adaptable. Amazing!
Clifton was the easiest and best choice we made about our wedding other than Lucy O Photo. Their staff was so professional but also warm and accommodating. We had many international guests that needed extra help and they were on top of everything so we didn't need to worry. They also went the extra mile to help us hang party pennants we had made for the dancing tent. I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially having access to the in-house wedding planner.
Fabulous venue, staff, and food. We had the best experience working with Clifton Inn. We loved the fact that we could rent out the entire venue (including all of the rooms) - it really added an intimate feel for our wedding.
