About The Poor Cousins

The Poor Cousins

Husband and wife duo, The Poor Cousins, combine intimate, nourishing songs and gutsy tunes in an easy-going style. On fiddle, Naomi finds sounds both fiery and flowing, blending seamlessly with Emmet's rhythmic and elegant guitar back-up. The duo performs various styles including classical, popular tunes, and American, Irish and all Celtic fiddle music. In addition to playing at many weddings and events in the New York City / New England area the duo have performed in many countries around the world, both together and separately.

We are a versatile and flexible duo and are willing to work with a couple to find the music that most fits them. Our music can be fully instrumental or can include vocals. Or indeed a mix of both. Our sound is always tasteful and grounded, and is not overly showy.

  • A Beautiful Compliment to Our Wedding

As the couple getting married, I'm so sorry we did not get as much time to enjoy The Poor Cousins as our guests did. They were wonderful. We asked them to play our outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour. I also asked if they would be able to play a cover of a song that was not in their repertoire for our processional, and they absolutely did. They were very sweet and professional, and we would absolutely recommend them for bookings.

We had Emmet and Naomi for our indoor December wedding, the venue was a log cabin style lodge. They were a perfect match and we were so glad we chose them. They learned one of our favorite songs for the opening to our ceremony, playing a beautiful instrumental version of it. Our guests loved the music, that it was accessible for everyone, young and old alike. We had toddlers dancing in front of the band, but the guests seated closest to the band during dinner could still carry on a conversation easily. A lot of people really appreciated this, that they could add ambiance and energy without overpowering you. We especially want to thank them for traveling through the blizzard conditions to be there that weekend. We were hoping for a snowy winter wedding, and we got all the snow we could handle that weekend! The Poor Cousins really helped everything come together for us, and we would absolutely recommend them to anybody!

Had the pleasure of having Emmet & Naomi play at our wedding. They are kind, thoughtful, communicative people and of course, very talented. They contributed in no small part to the beautiful ambience of our special day! Just give their music a listen on bandcamp and you'll see what I mean -- it brought my wife to tears (of joy!) Thanks again for being a part of it! Much love, AJ Ari

These two were so talented and the music so beautiful! They were both so kind and communicative throughout the whole process. They even learned a song for our first dance! Very HIGHLY recommended!
