What led you to wedding photography?

I was always the girl with the camera. Whether it was a disposable Kodak when I was 6 or the Polaroid I would sneak from my dad’s desk, I was always the girl with the camera. I am thankful everyday to wake up, and that the same passion I had as a little girl has now turned into a lifelong career, with a new adventure daily.

What do you love most about being a wedding photographer in Ann Arbor?

Ann Arbor is great for the wedding industry for multiple reasons. There is a fantastic community of local vendors, who are extremely talented, and it has the small town feel being within a larger city.

If you weren't a professional photographer, what would you be doing?

Hands down, I would be a zoologist. Movies like We Bought A Zoo make me cry with envy. No, really... It’s true.

What has been your most memorable wedding to date?

This is a tough one. I feel like each wedding we walk away from that there is always a moment that made me tear up, or straight up cry like a little girl. The emotion of a groom seeing his bride for the first time, the flower girl looking at the bride in awe like she really is a princess. Or, do I say, the daddy-daughter dances. It may be cliché, but every one holds a place very near and dear to my heart. We have been so blessed to have so many incredible couples in front of our cameras; I don’t think I could pick ONE favorite!

Black/white versus color images? What's your favorite and why?

There is defiantly a place for both… I have always been a sucker for black and white film, which in the past was hard to replicate digitally. But the new techniques of the digital age have made vast improvements. If you look at my work, you will see black and white primarily when trying to achieve a certain moment frozen in time. Lighting is very important for black and white images, and can drastically enhance whether an image works in black and white, or if the same moment can be achieved in color. I shoot in color, so all black and white images are created post-process.

If you could choose one famous photographer throughout all space & time to spend a day shooting with, who would it be?

Ansel Adams. I would love to be in his mind. I am also a huge fan of Cliff Mautner & Susan Stripling in today’s wedding industry.

If you only had three words to describe your photography style, what would they be?

Romance. Emotion. Lighting

What's your favorite thing about living in Ann Arbor?

The big city with a small town feel.

What's your go-to coffee shop in Ann Arbor?

Mighty Good Coffee.

What's your favorite romantic movie? And what dessert are you most likely munching on while you watch?

The Notebook. Because everyone thinks they have a love like Noah and Allie, when really - each love story should be unique to the people who are creating it. So once you get past wanting to be them, it’s a really great movie. I would most definitely be munching on tear soaked Rice Krispy treats (the homemade kind), Sour Patch Kids, and…salad? (Said no one ever…) ;)
