The Charlottesville Wedding Blog

If there's one thing no one could ever say about Charlottesville weddings it's that we're lacking in gorgeous wedding venues. But not only are our Charlottesville wedding venues incomparably stunning, there is SO much variety between them, and therein lies the inspiration for this post.

If you ask any of us locals, Charlottesville has it all: mountain views, vineyards galore, two rivers, beautiful farms offering rolling hills... I could go on for hours (and I often do!). It was no easy chore, but we've culled through all of our beautiful venues and chosen the eight that we think are the most beautiful and offer something truly unique for the Charlottesville brides & grooms who choose to say "I do" in these beautiful locations. So without further ado, we present...

Meadow Lane

We introduced you to Meadow Lane a few weeks ago in this recent article, but I can't help bring it up again because it's just. So. Beautiful.

Meadow Lane is located in Hot Springs, VA, about a two-hour drive from Charlottesville, but don't let the (absolutely stunning) drive keep you from checking this place out, because it offers brides so much. For starters, the gorgeous 1860 House, managing to boast both a certain antebellum charm we love along with modern amenities, will serve as your bridal sanctuary on the day of your wedding. Even better, the 1,400-acre property, set on a private farm, can sleep up to 28, so once the party is over, you & your VIPs will barely have to travel at all to get a little rest! Which is a good thing, considering you'll no doubt want to celebrate all weekend long, as the estate, which is situated on the Jackson River, offers opportunities for fly fishing, a heated pool, tennis courts, fire pits, miles of hiking & biking trails, and of course, adorable farm animals.

All of this is wonderful, indeed, but one of the best things about weddings at Meadow Lane is that your booking comes with a venue coordinator, who will help you along every step of your wedding planning.

Old Metropolitan Hall

I've said it before, I know I'll say it again: Old Metropolitan Hall is one of the best ways, in my opinion, to show your wedding guests everything that Charlottesville has to offer. With a prime location on the Downtown Mall, Old Met shows off our charming Main Street & is the perfect accompaniment to a couple who chooses to host their rehearsal dinner at a vineyard, or vice versa.

The most striking thing about Old Met, besides its location, is the exquisitely restored interior, which manages to simultaneously nod to its 40s & 50s roots while remaining thoroughly modern. Walking through the front doors, you'll be greeted by the original tin tiles on the ceiling & a mirrored wall, through which the incredible glass chandeliers will be reflecting. Downstairs you'll find the bar with black-and-white diamond flooring & plenty of room for a band or DJ, just begging you to start dancing. Both floors are incredibly versatile, and we've seen some of most incredible events happen here. We're in love with weddings at Old Met.

Mount Ida Farm

There are so many things that make Mount Ida Farm unique amongst Charlottesville wedding venues that there's no way I can possibly cover it in a few paragraphs, but I will do my best!

Mount Ida is a private farm located on 6,000 acres and, with accommodations for up to 65 in their five manor homes, is a fantastic venue if you are hoping to make your wedding weekend long inspiration. But that's the beginning. The beautiful event barn is actually a working barn, hosting cattle auctions twice year, though with its steepled ceilings & refinished wood, would absolutely never know it. Within the barn are two suites - a bridal suite & a "man cave" - with the bridal suite truly begin one of the most gorgeous I have ever seen - really.

Ceremonies typically take place at the pergola overlooking Mt Ida Lake & its charming fountain. While certainly lovely in daylight, we can't help but mention that we have seen some of the most amazing night shots at the gazebo.

This is all great, but what makes Mt Ida truly unique is all the little extras they offer, so let me list them off: they have three luxury shuttle busses onsite so that your guests can get safely to & from Charlottesville without a worry. There are Clydesdales here, with a wedding carriage. (!) They will tether a hot air balloon for you. They have a wonderful 20x20 dance floor. They have chairs & rentals for up to 300 guests. Did I mention the bridal suite yet? Seriously, the folks at Mount Ida have thought of everything for their Charlottesville weddings, and yes - they have provide a venue coordinator.

Chestnut Hill Bed & Breakfast

Located amongst the rolling hills of Orange, Virginia, Chestnut Hill Bed & Breakfast is an ideal venue for brides looking for an intimate outdoor wedding ceremony with up to 150 of their closest friends & family. Ceremonies take place outdoors in front of the water fountain surrounded by six free standing Greek columns - utter romance.

As you know by now, I'm a big fan of the "wedding weekend," which is why I love that there's room at Chestnut Hill for up to 12 guests - perfect for your bridal party! - and it's totally affordable, especially considering the base price includes an officiant, tent, dance floor, lighting, tables, & Chiavari chairs, to name just a few things.

It's also perfect for the couple hoping to elope in Charlottesville, as they offer a comprehensive & affordable elopement package starting at just $599! I can hardly imagine anything sweeter.

Clifton Inn

Oh how I love the Clifton Inn! I'm a total sucker for stately white houses for one simple reason: they make any surrounding lawns & landscape look that much more lush, and this could not ring more true than at the Clifton Inn. Consider further the contrast of a white wedding gown & white ceremony chairs, and it's clear that Charlottesville weddings have never looked better.

Add to that the stunning mountain views over 100 acres, stellar catering, seventeen suites for guest accommodations plus the carriage house for the newlyweds, and it's no wonder why the Clifton is one of the most popular wedding venues in Charlottesville. Not sure if you want to host a lavish affair? No worries. The Clifton offers a seriously tempting elopement package, starting at only $350.

As a Relais & Chateuax property, you know you're in for exquisite service & unsurpassed elegance when you're at the Clifton. And guess what? The Clifton is offering a serious incentive for brides planning fall weddings. You'll have to read all about it here, but I'll give you one hint: Paris.

Meriwether Springs Vineyard

There's nothing quite like a vineyard wedding in Charlottesville, and that's exactly why they're so popular! This leads us to the next venue on the list: Meriwether Springs Vineyard. A working vineyard, Meriwether offers a plethora of beautiful locations for you to say "I do," from the courtyard that overlooks the vines to the secluded lake area.

The event center offers a rustic, barn-like aesthetic complete with incredible open post & beam architecture & huge doors that lead into the courtyard & then toward the vineyard. Oh, and another must-have that I'm always talking about is the bridal loft, which you'll be pleased to learn is available with every wedding package.

We think Meriwether is ideal for the laid-back bride & groom that want to keep things simple yet insanely beautiful & romantic. Be sure to add this one to your must-see list!

The Market at Grelen

The Market at Grelen is one of the newest Charlottesville wedding venues to hit the scene & is unique in that it is a tree nursery; actually, it's one of the largest tree nurseries in Virginia, sitting on 600 acres in Somerset. And since they're a nursery, they have a huge slection of potted plants that you can rent to adorn your ceremony & reception space in a truly one-of-a-kind way.

There are tons of ceremony location options for brides to consider on the property. I can hardly imagine a more difficult task than choosing between the field beside the berry patch, the greenhouse, or the stone patio, but wherever you choose, it will be beautiful. The best part is that since the Market at Grelen is a new venue, it's insanely affordable, starting at just $2,000! Clearly, you've got to check this venue out if you haven't already fallen head over heels... or even if you have!

Belle Haven

And last but definitely, definitely not least, we've come to Belle Haven, a private home in Scottsville, Virginia, just a tad bit east of Charlottesville, situated on the James River. The best way to describe Belle Haven, in my opinion, is as a country house, and the best word for it is simply charming. When I think of country houses, I think of gorgeous, English-style gardens (read: slightly overgrown in a chic way; the opposite of the neatly manicured French gardens), little hideaways & alcoves on the property, beautiful views, and of course, great hospitality. Belle Haven has all of this and more, and there is a certain j ne sais quoi to this place that makes you immediately fall in love with it.

The biggest draw to Belle Haven may well be its fabulous & utterly gorgeous red barn. It's plain to see that we love barn weddings, along with the rest of the wedding world, and Belle Haven has exceeded all expectations of what a barn wedding can be. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Oh and yes, of course, Belle Haven offers a bridal dressing room for the brides & her girls on the day-of!

Was that too much beauty for you to handle in one sitting? I thought that might be the case, which is why we only graced you with eight of our favorite Charlottesville wedding venues, but there's so much more where this came from! Click here to browse them all.
