The Definitive Guide to Planning a Bachelorette Weekend in Key West
The Florida Keys: a place where the sun always shines, the rum flows freely, and the bachelorette parties are killer. That latter fact is maybe the best thing about this place (okay, the plethora of rum-based cocktails doesn’t hurt, either). But seriously: if you’re looking for the Disney World of bachelorette destinations, you’ve found it.
By the way: if you've gotten to that point in the planning, congratulations are in order. You've already got your wedding venue, photographer, caterer, and florist all squared away. Now all that's left is the fun stuff: we’re talking bachelorette parties that take advantage of everything from white sand beaches fit for lounging to vibrant streets made for shopping to sailboats perfect for partying. And that’s just for starters—the Keys have it all.
So the real question is: what kind of bride do you have on your hands? Tailor-making a weekend that perfectly jives with your bride’s personality is exactly what you should be aiming for. Lucky for you, we’ve come up with a few personality-appropriate ideas of our own.
For the Sporty Bride:
First thing you need to know: the locals love bikes for getting around in the Conch Republic. Which also happens to be a perfect means for travel if you’ve got a fabulous fitness-loving gal to celebrate. There are rental places all over, but we’re privy to a few in Key West: Bike Rentals Key West, Eaton Bikes, and Bike Man.
Once you’ve got your new set of wheels, go for a joy ride through Truman Annex. This picturesque neighborhood in Key West affords some great sights, sounds, and tastes (if you’ve worked up enough of an appetite, head to La Creperie for some unbelievable crepes).
When you’re ready to take to the sea, head to one of the dozens of amazing beaches all along the Keys. If you make it to Marathon, Curry Hammock State Park is one of the best spots to kayak. The park offers rentals here so you can paddle your way through the watery trail that circles the island (full disclosure: get ready to cut through a mangrove creek). Snorkeling is just as popular here, and the water’s equally perfect if you just want to go for a swim.
On the topic of water sports, Adventure JetSkis Watersports in Key West also offers an incredible 28-mile tour that will take you to secluded islands, mangroves, a WWII submarine pit, and other awesome spots you can only access by water. Guided by professional tour-guides, this will have your sporty bride living the dream.
For the Mindful Bride:
Use this weekend to give your bride a break from all the craziness of wedding planning and regroup with her girls. In the zen-finding spirit, yoga makes for a perfect start to the day. Bikram Yoga offers classes in Key West, or head to the beach for a yoga sesh that makes a serious connection with nature. Yoga on the Beach is exactly what it sounds like, offering drop-in classes for just a small fee.
Replenish yourselves at Sugar Apple Café, a sweet spot with an all vegan, totally organic menu. They’ve got everything from a fresh juice bar to a tempeh, avocado, and cranberry sandwich; plus, an attached store where you can grab plenty of goodies to take home.
Keep the mindfulness going and pamper yourself with a spa treatment (or two). SpaTerre in Ocean Key Resort and Spa (there’s also one in Little Palm Island Resort and Spa if you’re further up the Keys) offers a Balinese massage that’s well worth the indulgence—we promise you’ve never felt better than this. Alternatively, try Prana Spa for equally luxurious services. Whatever spa you choose, just be sure to book all of your appointments ahead of time.
For the Fun-loving Bride:
Party animals will find a warm welcome in Key West, where Duval Street nightlife is infamous. To start off the day right, head to Sarabeth’s Kitchen for an amazing brunch. A stack of their lemon ricotta pancakes and a few of their champagne cocktails will have you feeling good. Pro tip: add alcohol to their famous flower juice. You’re welcome.
Bring the party on the water with Sunset Sail. They offer day cruises to fill your afternoon, which come with sodas and a cooler full of ice—just bring your favorite rum to complete the trip.
If your day is already scheduled and you want to push back departure time to later in the evening, they also offer sunset sails on your own private vessel for up to six guests. This includes a gourmet cheese plate, basic mixers, bottled water, and a cooler of ice for any adult beverages you choose to bring. Time. To. Party.

If you don’t have your sea legs, find a spot in the Keys where you can Sip and Paint. The World Famous Blue Flamingo Cafe Paint and Sip Gallery hosts tons of events that will help you channel your inner Picasso while sipping on some vino—a winning combination, if we've ever heard of one. If you're further up the Keys, have no worries. Galleries like this have started to seriously catch on, so just do a quick Google search and find the nearest one to where you'll be staying.
Once evening hits, head to Duval Street and partake in a self-led walking bar crawl. It’s not hard to make this a DIY endeavor on a street this jam-packed with bars and pubs, but you can also check out Duval Street Crawl to make sure you hit all the right spots. Either way, get ready for a bar crawl like none before—thanks in no small part to the Keys's open container allowances.
For starters, kick off your evening at Sunset Pier, part of the beautiful Ocean Key Resort (bonus points if you decide to book a room here!). Sunset Pier emits a little more upscale vibe, with beautiful views and great food and cocktails. Of course, it's not a real party if you don't end at the infamous Sloppy Joe's Bar and Capt. Tony's Saloon—the saloon was the original Sloppy Joe's where Hemingway (and many other legendary characters from history) was a regular.
While the brand of bride might differ, the main goal for the weekend stays the same: fill your days with activities fit for your girl and get ready for a bachelorette weekend to remember—there's no better way to experience the Keys.
