Katherine & Kyle's gorgeous Sonoma soirée from James & Jess has me totally weak at the knees. The ridiculously gorgeous summer palette of florals and the vibrant, yet rich cranberry colored bridesmaids' dresses blending so seamlessly with the stunning backdrop of Vine Hill House is something out of a dream. And the al fresco dinner party amidst the vines so perfectly set beneath the shade of the many large umbrellas with the most darling personalized place setting and little honey favor creates the most sweet and inviting setting that I want to jump into. Take a look for yourself loves!
From the beautiful bride...
The number one inspiration for me was family. Family has always been my priority and motivation in life. For my wedding I knew I wanted to be near my grandparents. They live five minutes away from the Vine Hill House on an apple orchard in Sebastopol, California. I grew up coming here and loving every aspect of the community. It encompasses everything I could dream of in a perfect wedding location: apple orchards, vineyards, redwood trees, and it was close enough that it would allow my elderly grandfather to attend. (He otherwise would not be able to because he is limited in his physical mobility). Also my in-laws were traveling from Michigan to California for the first time, and what better place to show off California's beauty than Sonoma.
Kyle is my hero. He served in the United States Marine Corps for five years with three deployments. A year and a half ago, Kyle was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps and began pursuing his education with a major in engineering. He loves doing handy work, that is where he truly shines. Most recently he made a beautiful wine rack for me!
During wedding planning I was working at the Mental Health Association of Orange County, and also pursuing and completing courses at USC for my Master's in Social Work. I love people and am completely driven to provide support and advocacy to underrepresented communities. In what little free time I have, I love the outdoors hiking and camping are my all time favorite activities. I also LOVE watching movies.
We, as a couple, have chosen to always have a goal of adventuring. We made that promise to each other each other. What we mean by adventuring is that we will always work towards experiencing new things in life as long as we live. There are several ways we do this, one example is that we created a bucket list of adventure ideas and have a goal of completing at least one subject of the list per month. We love to involve our friends in this goal as well.
Our story is quite funny and quite a testimony of fate. First the story of how we met... I was attending a country concert with my best friend and maid of honor because I had given her a ticket for her birthday. We attended the concert after she had gone through a breakup with the goal to be just us girls. Kyle was invited to the same concert at the last minute only two hours before the concert started. We met by chance and talked and danced the night away. I unfortunately did not give him my phone number and was heartbroken the next day realizing I may never hear from this wonderful guy. Fortunately my best friend was able to give my number to Kyle's friend who she had seen the next day. Kyle called and asked me on a date. Kyle was deployed to Afghanistan six months after our first date, and during this time I saw in myself how much I felt incomplete without him there. When he returned we spent every day possible together. Kyle proposed on my birthday during a surprise camping trip, with our closest friends present. He proposed with my grandma's ring (which as I said before, family is everything to me so of course this caused some happy tears) and dressed in the outfit he wore on our first date, it was perfect.
We had a very random idea to use a piece of wood that we found on my grandparents' property as a guest book. We refinished the top and asked that individuals sign it. We are in the process of finishing it and creating a one of a kind coffee table for our apartment. Also my mothers friends were the most amazing helpful DIY-ers I've ever met. They single handedly created a beautiful cake and groom's cake, a table with family wedding pictures, a s'mores table, cute Star Wars boutonnieres for the ring bearers, and so much more! A few other fun ideas from our wedding include: My something blue (using blue ink to sign the bottoms of my shoes), our groom and bride Starbucks cups for a fun photo, jars of honey as favors which we finished with red and lace fabric, our whisky bar which was located next to the dance floor provided a fun touch. Also our officiant who is also my uncle surprised us by preforming a wine pouring ceremony in place of a unity candle. He bought a bottle from California to represent me and a bottle from Michigan to represent Kyle. The last detail that I loved about my wedding was that even though we chose not to do a first look because we valued tradition, I was able to do a first look with my bridesmaids which was perfect.
We moved one month before our wedding from Southern California to Northern California so that I can be near my family to spend as much time as possible with my grandparents. The plan from here is for me to finish my Masters program in social work. Kyle is still working towards finishing his Bachelors in Engineering. We are so excited for what our future holds, for now we are taking life one day at a time, enjoying the ride!
