Plan your Orlando wedding - from A to Z. Start here

7 Locations for Orlando Engagement Sessions

The engagement period is a whirlwind, to say the least. From the giddiness & excitement of the proposal, to the anticipation of finally being married to your best friend, there are so many wonderful emotions swirling around during the days and weeks that follow your engagement. Soon, you’ll begin the wedding planning process. When you do, you’ll quickly learn that though wedding planning is fun (and so worth it!), it can also feel overwhelming at times. It doesn’t take long for your to-do list, which had been filled with social activities & dates, to overflow with wedding-related tasks. Evenings that used to consist of quality time together have turned into nights staring at spreadsheets.

What if I told you that one of the items on your wedding to-do list will actually help relieve stress? What if this same item will reconnect you as a couple during this hectic time? That’s exactly what the engagement shoot does. The session will give the two of you the chance to put down the wedding planning binder and shift your focus back to one another. As you hug, kiss, and play in front of the camera, you’ll feel all of the giddiness & excitement you initially experienced come rushing back, and you’ll remember why all of the stress is so worth it. Not to mention the fact that you’ll end up with professional quality photos that can be used in your save-the-dates or as part of your invitation suite. How’s that for a win-win?

Now that I’ve (hopefully!) convinced you to do an engagement shoot, let’s talk location. Fortunately, Orlando offers stunning backdrops for just about any style of shoot. From downtown streetscapes, to pristine parks, to one of the city’s theme parks, this city can deliver just about any setting your heart desires.

If you do plan on using the images in your save-the-dates or invitation suite, choose a setting that aligns with the overall look & feel of your wedding. For example, if you’re hosting a rustic, country soirée, look for a natural, farmland location. Planning a formal, rooftop affair? You’ll want a more urban setting. That way, when guests see your invitation suite, they’ll already know what to expect on the big day.

To get the scoop on the best spots in town, we reached out to some of the city’s top wedding photographers. Read on for their Orlando engagement shoot location recommendations!

    Downtown Winter Park

First up, we heard from Rachel Vasquez, from Rachel V photography. Rachel says, “the greater Orlando area has a wide range of wonderful locations for engagement sessions. Everything from small-town charm to theme parks there are so many areas to explore. One of my favorite locations is downtown Winter Park. It has a small community feel with some beautiful architecture, gardens, and brick streets.”

When we saw the images from this Saturday morning session, we fell head over heels for the charming town. Rachel & her clients “started out at the Saturday morning farmers market before exploring the gardens and eventually cozying up for some coffee at Barnie's Coffee Kitchen on Park Ave. This one area has so much to offer, every session I do here I find a new favorite spot.”

    Rollins College

Another of Rachel’s favorite spots is Rollins College, because “it has beautifully maintained Spanish Mediterranean architecture, huge oak trees covered in moss, quiet alcoves and, nestled next to Lake Virginia, offers plenty of variety. I like to recommend morning sessions here because the campus is quiet and the lighting is beautiful as it reflects off of the white buildings.”

    Disney’s Boardwalk

Jennifer of Jennifer O'Donnell Photography loves photographing engaged couples at Orlando's Disney World. After all, it is “The Happiest Place on Earth!” And Disney’s Boardwalk, a shopping & dining center nestled between Epcot and Hollywood Studios, is one of her favorite spots to take couples. She describes the Boardwalk as being"the best tucked-away location at Disney World for couples. The Boardwalk comes alive at dusk and begins bustling with couples walking the promenade hand in hand, taking photos in photo booths, and riding bikes for two. The vintage setting inspired by the 1920s with the entire location overlooking the water almost makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time."

Take a look at the photos she captured during a recent engagement shoot. The Boardwalk provides such a playful background, don’t you think?

    Magic Kingdom

There's no better engagement shoot for a Disney-loving couple than Magic Kingdom. Jennifer agrees, saying, "Magic Kingdom is exactly that — magical. So many Florida couples have grown up spending their time at Disney World. It’s a place where dreams are celebrated, and what better dream is there to celebrate than falling in love? Time almost seems to stop when you’re in love and walking down Main Street USA. Add in a magic carpet ride and a couple Mickey ice cream bars and it makes for the perfect, magical day!"

    Downtown Orlando

"Downtown Orlando is definitely a favorite spot of mine because it's super versatile and centrally located. It offers so many great backdrops from cool alley ways, to beautiful architecture, to urban wall art — there's a little something for every style. Of course, downtown is pretty expansive so it's always a great idea to go with a photographer that knows the area well and can suggest some specific spots that capture the look you are after. Some of the areas I enjoy shooting at most include Church Street Station which is where as well as Lake Eola and the Mills 50 District. Although you really can't go wrong just wandering around the city beautiful!"

Orlando photographer Elle Beaz perfectly articulates why the best spot for your engagement shoot might just be downtown Orlando. And if her explanation wasn't enough, she sent us these gorgeous rainy day engagement portraits taken at Church Street Station to illustrate just how special this spot is.

With the Orlando wedding photographers at Created Image Photography, this couple took advantage of the more secluded areas of downtown Orlando and snapped a few engagement photos in front of residential doorways, next to trickling water fountains, and amongst soft, romantic branches. We really love how much personality shines through in this session!

    Becks Blueberry Farm

For many couples, posing for engagement photos feels a bit awkward & uncomfortable. To cut down on the discomfort, consider choosing a location that has some kind of activity, like Beck Brothers Blueberry Farm in Windermere. That way, your attention will be focused on the task at hand (and each other), rather than on the photographer.

Orlando photographer Leah Langley has taken couples out to this location for a morning of blueberry picking & sunrise shots, and the results are fantastic. Take a look!

    Bok Tower Gardens

Just a short drive away from downtown Orlando lies Bok Tower Gardens, & it's one of the most beautiful gardens we've ever seen. Surrounding the property's enormous bell tower are flower species of every kind. Rudy Montilla, with Rudy + Marta Photography, considers the gardens a top spot for capturing drool-worthy engagement shots. He shares, "every time we go to Bok Tower Gardens it’s a little different. Something else is in bloom." Plus, "the scenery and feeling you get while there is inexplicable" and "a sense of wonder and magic roams the air." Rudy says, "couples should go here for a romantic, out-of-the-norm take on an engagement session. In the right hands, the engagement images can be amazing!"

Orlando couples — the city is truly your oyster when it comes to selecting locations for your engagement shoot. Good luck making your final selection — we can't wait to see your photos!
