Each of Claire's weddings tell a completely unique story about the couple, and it's through her perfectly composed imagery that she is able to tell such a nuanced tale. There are so many incredible San Francisco wedding photographers out there, and Claire Mulkey Photography is one of the greats, so enjoy this short Q&A!

What do you love most about being a San Francisco wedding photographer?

What I love most about being a wedding photographer in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area is that I am constantly experiencing weddings that are wonderfully unique and inspired. The Bay Area is full of people with varying backgrounds and cultures, and it is great to see how brides and grooms incorporate their own identities and ideas into their weddings, never afraid to veer away from traditional wedding customs. The result is always an incredibly creative, beautiful, and heartfelt event, and that really comes through in the wedding photos.

If you weren't a professional photographer, what would you be doing?

When I first went to college, I wanted to be an art professor, because I love interacting with, teaching, and learning from people in an artistic way. It was a few years after I graduated, while traveling through South America, that I realized my passion for photography.

What has been your most memorable wedding to date?

My most memorable wedding so far was set in Pacifica on a beautiful piece of property by the sea. The day was brisk and foggy, a look which came through as almost etherial in the photographs. There were a variety of musical performances given by sound healers, including the bride and groom, all of which were incredible to witness.

If you could choose one famous photographer throughout all space & time to spend a day shooting with, who would it be?

I love the work of many different photographers, but one photographer that has always stood out to me is Johnny Donnels. He spent the 1970s photographing the people of the New Orleans French Quarter. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities, and I love the energy of the city and its people that comes through in his photographs.

If you only had three words to describe your photography style, what would they be?

If I only had three words to describe my photography style, I would choose authentic, candid, and romantic.

Black & white photos versus color: which do you prefer and why?

I don't have a preference between black and white vs color photographs. It totally depends on the photo itself, and often times a photo can look amazing in both forms.

Can you share with us three of your favorite images from San Francisco weddings?

This image is one of my favorites because it is such an amazing moment captured between the bride and her mother as the bride dances barefoot on her wedding day. It just doesn't get any better than that.

I absolutely love all the colors of the bridesmaids dresses and the parasols to match. This is such a fun, playful moment with a bride and her bridesmaids.

Big windows are some of my favorite places to photograph brides and grooms. If I am photographing your wedding, you will always find me scouting out the big windows in the venue.

What's your favorite outdoor activity in San Francisco?

My favorite outdoor activity in the San Francisco Bay Area would have to be hiking on a beautiful and sunny day. I love to go to Lafayette, the Oakland Hills, and Marin, to name a few.

What's your favorite romantic movie and what dessert are you most likely munching on while watching it?

One of my favorite romantic movies is Love Actually, and I am most likely to be eating brownies and sipping wine while watching it.
