Top 4 Urban Wedding Venues in San Francisco

Oh, San Francisco weddings... the things you do to us. The couples who are clearly madly in love. The wedding decor that takes our breath away time and time again. The supremely talented local wedding vendors who make our hearts skip a beat. And watch out when we get started on the breathtaking venue options. Located in the heart of the city and reflective of the aesthetics that give San Fran its hip, culturally cool vibe, urban venues are definitely a popular pick for couples who opt to exchange vows in this bustling metropolis. They're some of our favorites too, because the urban San Francisco wedding venues are gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. To get you inspired, we've chosen our top 4 favorite San Francisco urban wedding venues, so keep scrolling. You never know - the venue of your wildest dreams might just be tucked away below!

Foreign Cinema

The first venue on our list is probably one of the most unique venues we've ever discovered, and we're totally smitten. Opening their doors in 1999, this restaurant venue has continuously found favor with the locals and visitors to the city. Maybe it's because of their gorgeous "industrial chic" inspired atmosphere. Perhaps it's because of their mouth-watering California-Mediterranean dishes. Or, maybe their success can be attributed to their courtyard movie screenings (what a fun way to share a photo collage with your friends and family at the wedding!). Whatever is the driving force behind Foreign Cinema's popularity, we have no doubts that it makes an excellent backdrop for San Francisco weddings.

When couples choose this wedding venue for their day, they have several unique spaces to choose from for celebrations of up to 350 guests, including the main fireside dining room, a art gallery dining room, the glass-covered outdoor patio (completely with a gorgeous bar!), an upstairs, semi-private mezzanine, and more. Then, thanks to the fact that Foreign Cinema is a fully operating restaurant, couples can also easily treat their guests to some of the most exceptional food San Francisco has to offer. Oh, and did we mention that you get to help tailor the menu with the head chef, as well? Talk about an incredible way to add a bit of your own personality & local flair to your big day!

We can go on and on, but instead scroll below for a gander. If you're as captivated as we are and want to know more, check out their website for more awesome details!

Tank18, Inc.

Where do we even start with Tank18, Inc.? It's tempting to dive right in and talk about everything all at once, but we'll make things easy and simply start at the beginning. This restaurant, winery, and urban wedding venue was dreamed up by its founders one day over lunch. Both techies working in Silicon Valley, they decided that wine, food, and fun are things that everyone can love and get behind. With that thought in mind, they launched what is now Tank18, Inc., a luxurious restaurant located at a winery in the SOMA district.

Since opening their doors, they've stayed true to their vision of bringing good wine, good eats, and good fun to their visitors. We don't know about you, but we think all of those things are the perfect ingredients for throwing fabulous [an Francisco wedding! Just think... you can bring on the booze with Tank18's original wines (they even offer customized wine labels for a personal touch!), give your guests happy tummies with the restaurant's deletable cuisine, and share lasting memories with a night full of cutting a rug on the dance floor. All of this is easily accomplished thanks to the spacious, flexible floor plan offered in the venue's event area, which boasts 6,000 square feet, a 200+ guest capacity, and a large bar!

In addition to all this, we also can't get over the fun aesthetics that make this venue special, such as a chalkboard wall, rafted ceilings, wine-bottle lined walls, and more! Can't you just imagine all the fun ways you can jazz up these details for your San Francisco soiree? de Young Museum

Located in the stunning Golden Gate Park, this venue is unlike any other, and local brides will tell you same. Since 1895, the de Young Museum has undergone many renovations in recent years to give it the beautiful architectural, artistic, and landscape features it now enjoys. Outside the venue may be beautiful and offer endless photo backdrops, but all together the venue is home to not one, not two, but five different ceremony and reception spaces to choose from for your day. And the best part is that each event location has its own unique character. Here's a breakdown of the five lovely options available:

Wilsey Court Thanks to white walls and simplistic flooring, this room functions as a blank slate for brides to turn into their own wedding day creation. Wilsey Court and the adjoined lobby are perfect for large weddings of 200-800 guests.

Hamon Observation Tower Providing panoramic views of San Francisco, the surrounding Golden Gate Park, and the Pacific Ocean, this event space is ideal for a luxurious cocktail hour or an intimate ceremony and reception of up to 150 friends and family. The best part about this room is that windows line each wall, so you don't have to do anything at all to turn this area into a beautiful space — stunning views are already right at your fingertips!

de Young Cafe As the only indoor/outdoor wedding event space, the de Young Cafe is unique. Inside the cafe, blown-glass light fixtures and modern decor provide a unparalleled space for hosting San Francisco weddings of up to 275 attendees. Through the glass doors, guests can step outside on the to patio or enjoy a stroll through the adjacent Barbro Osher Sculpture Gardens. Does this space offer the best of both worlds, or what?

Piazzoni Murals Room Adjacent to Wilsey Court, the Piazzoni Mural room provides a warm and inviting environment for up to 250 people. Featuring mural walls and a polished hardwood floor, this space is perfect for a ceremony/reception or a lounge area for larger weddings.

Barbro Osher Sculpture Garden The most popular ceremony site at the museum, the Barbro Osher Sculpture Garden provides a magical backdrop for vow exchanges with up to 200 seated guests. We've seen a lot of outdoor wedding spaces in our day, but this one definitely takes the cake for artistic ingenuity and creativity!

"From a wedding reception for 400 to a 50th birthday bash for 25, the unique event spaces in the de Young will make your special private event unforgettable," boasts their website. We wholeheartedly agree and encourage you to mosey on over to their site to preview each event space and even more details about the ways this place can make your wedding day dreams come true.
