The Local was started in March 2008 to provide a venue to showcase the abundant supply of small farmers, artisan cheese makers, breweries, distilleries, and award-wining vineyards located in Charlottesville and the surrounding area. We are truly blessed to have such a wide variety of agriculture readily accessible and a local population so willing to support the local food movement. In addition, we strive to support local craftsman, and much of what you will see in the restaurant is fabricated locally.

We have four different spaces available and can take parties up to 200 people. We do not charge room fees and instead have food and beverage minimums for the spaces. We love hosting rehearsal dinners, corporate dinners, birthday parties and can even do full wedding receptions here at the Local.

"Our food was what we were most excited for and what ended up being the biggest disapointment of the whole weekend. I think we hit a bit of bad luck in that our planner from The Local had to take an unexpected leave a month before our big day, but she had done such a good job taking notes up until her departure that we felt "ok" with a substitute planner. We chose to use The Local for both our rehearshal dinner and the wedding itself. When we arrived at The Local on Friday night, the room was set up entirely different than how we drew it out and walked through it the day before....and it went down hill from there. The food on the night of the actual wedding was served almost 90 minutes late and came out cold and with no presentation. Thank goodness for Carpe Donut or our guests would have starved. Milicent really came to the rescue here, here and her team made it so no one other than Andrew, myself and our parents knew that there was a problem in the kitchen. The staff from The Local was awful and I would not recommend them to anyone. Having said that, the head Chef Matt was amazing and so apologetic after the fact. Again, this was just a big disappointment to us since we were SO excited about the food. "

"The Local was a great place to have our rehearsal dinner. We rented out one of the upstairs rooms and had our own private bar. The food and the drinks were amazing! They also provided us with a screen and a projector so that we could play a slideshow that my matron of honor made. "
