The Sonnet House is the Birmingham area’s premier special event facility. The house was built in 1918 and used as the McLaughlin family’s farm house. Built around the Little Cahaba River, the 18 acres were used as the base for the Mclaughlin Farm. After the home went to auction in 2003, it was purchased by Jared Heaton and his family to renovate and transform into a facility for weddings and other events. In the following years our team has helped hundreds of couples realize their wedding day dreams from quaint ceremonies to extravagant affairs.
We offer near limitless options to specialize our events to fit the needs of each client. We can be there for you during the entirety of the planning process or just as ‘day of coordinators’, guiding the event to help ensure a smooth and memorable celebration.

"It's no secret that planning a wedding is potentially one of the most stressful experiences you can take on. Choosing a venue, caterer and floral designer is a huge part of the process and subsequently a huge part of the stress. We booked a tour of The Sonnet House after my new husband and myself had two separate people rave about how wonderful it is. Having never seen the house in person, we were blown away by its beauty. It truly is the whole package, offering a little something for everyone and perfect indoor opportunities for the outdoor wedding that the weather doesn't want to work with. While we were in-love with the house itself, what really sold us was the incredible team that comes with booking The Sonnet House. Ellen, Cory and Jared took my visions and husband's requests and ran with it. After our initial planning meeting, we were amazed at how much stress was relieved, because the Sonnet House crew had it all taken care of. Ellen was there to answer all of my crazy bride questions... trust me, I had no idea what I was doing throughout the entire process. They think of everything, working tirelessly to make sure that you get the absolute most you can out of your wedding. The wedding day was completely stress-free. Ellen and Jared were there taking care of me and my soon-to-be husband and our crazy bridal party. Cory provided us with florals and decorations truly better than the Pinterest-crazed bride in me had hoped for. Our guests raved about the food, decor and the venue. It was virtually flawless from the moment our wedding day began to the moment my family left the property. They even packed my husband and me a picnic basket full of food from our reception to take with us to the hotel, because you WILL be absolutely starving by the time all of the craziness is over. My favorite part about working with The Sonnet House was the way they ensured that my parents got to enjoy the day with me. My mom truly was "mom" on my wedding day. They both were right there with us, soaking in every second. I was thankful for Ellen and Jared taking care of our wedding, as if it were the most important day in the world, so that my mom wasn't running around consumed in the crazy. Thank you SO much, Sonnet House. From my whole family, our wedding day was bliss and it's all thanks to you guys."
"The Sonnet House was such a great venue. The staff was very helpful & made sure the whole day ran smoothly. I didn't have to worry about a thing & I was able to enjoy every moment of our special day."
"I saw this venue through my photographer's work and knew beyond a shadow of a date that no matter what the cost, we had to get married there! Absolutely beautiful wedding venue. Had such a wonderful atmosphere for our truly southern, vintage wedding. We were able to utilize all areas of the venue site. Amazing staff to work with! "
"The Sonnet House is a wonderful venue to work with. Jared, Corey and Ellen are great people and have their venue down to a science. The backdrop of the woods and stone fireplace set the mood and we hardly used much decor. It was the place I had always dreamed of having my wedding!"
