Thornewood Castle is both an indoor and outdoor wedding venue. Weddings and receptions at Thornewood Castle can take place in our sunken English garden, inside in the Great Hall and Ballroom, or out on the grounds for a wedding overlooking the water.
Located only 42 miles south of Seattle, WA Thornewood Castle is a wonderful "destination" wedding location - close enough to be a great option for a local Seattle wedding venue, but unique enough to feel as though you're entirely elsewhere. The drive from downtown Seattle to Thornewood Castle takes about 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Thornewood is 30 miles south of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Thornewood also provides a great wedding venue solution to the Seattle weather problem that has always plagued Seattle brides. Our Great Hall offers a stunning "Plan B" for your ceremony if the weather does not decide to cooperate. We also have large grounds that can accomodate nearly any size tent, if you wish to use that as your bad-weather alternative.

If you want an amazing outdoor wedding, we can set up your big day on the steps in our "secret" garden, surrounded by antique brickwork, sculpture and fountains, and huge bursts of flowers. Or, if you prefer a waterfront location, you can get married on the immaculate lawns overlooking American Lake. Receptions can be set up on the grounds next to the Loggia (a covered porch) or inside in the ballroom.
There is nothing comparable to a wedding in the Thornewood Great Hall. The Great Hall features an oversized sandstone fireplace a mantel of ornate dark oak, glowing wood floors and paneling, a high victorian sculpted ceiling, and huge Tudor windows overlooking the fountain. There is nothing more beautiful than a bride descending the grand staircase into the Great Hall! Also, our Christmas decorations make Thornewood an exceptionally beautiful choice for indoor winter weddings.
American Lake and the Castle make a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor reception on our lawn. A wonderful breeze coming off the lake keeps your guests comfortable even in warm summer months. The sun sets on the opposite side of the lake, making for a romantic setting to enjoy a seated dinner with you guests.
Our Ballroom is perfect for an intimate indoor reception. Seating up to 125 guests, they are surrounded by antique furniture, stained glass windows, artwork and a crystal chandelier. A mixture of grand 8 foot long tables and round tables allows for a personalized and unique dinner experience.
"Thonewood Castle was the most magical wedding venue we could ever have imagined... a gorgeous mini-Castle built by a man for his true love, it was the ideal setting for our celebration. We searched high and low in the Pacific Northwest for a venue that matched our passion for history, tradition, and love - and this venue truly encapsulated all that and more. The indoor/outdoor ceremony/reception options put our minds at ease, and we knew that regardless of the weather the day would go off without a hitch. We were lucky to have gorgeous sunny blue skies in October, and so had our ceremony in the garden and our reception in the castle; it was truly the best of both worlds. But had it rained, we would have been cozily married inside the Great Room with the roaring fire and stormy ambiance. We rented the entire castle out for the event, and spent our honeymoon night in the Presidential Suite, it was so much fun to have the castle to ourselves and our families following the wedding, and it was an experience we will never forget. The staff was also very helpful, and we had a great experience with everyone there. Stephanie was especially helpful that night, and we really appreciated everything Thornewood and their staff did to make the event run smoothly. Thank you Thornewood... we can't wait to return for our anniversary one day!"
