Vendors in this Wedding
Jack was one of our absolute favorite wedding vendors to work with. He is such a professional, and captures every moment of your wedding day without interfering (or, more often than not, without you even noticing he's taking a picture). We weren't really sure what we wanted or needed out of a wedding photographer, but thankfully Jack didn't need much instruction, and he shot every single detail of the entire day- more than I could have ever thought to ask for. We got to know Jack at an engagement photo shoot prior to the big day, which was really nice of him to include, because when the big day came, we had already gotten to know Jack and were familiar with his style. He also offers a photo booth with his wedding photography packages, which was so much fun for our guests- it's almost like having extra entertainment! I was pretty shocked when I first learned what the average price of professional wedding photography costs in Charlottesville. That said, it was worth every penny (and then some) to have a photographer like Jack. After the day has come and gone, the photos are really all you have to look back on the special day. Also, Jack is a rock star and had our photos back to us within days after the wedding, which allowed us to order copies to send out as our Christmas cards. I can't say enough good things about Jack and his team!
My husband is a chef, and he had actually worked with Chef Vangelopolous at the Ivy Inn prior to our wedding, so we knew there was no better choice for our rehearsal dinner. They set up a tent for our party of about 40 guests on the outside patio in November, but they heated the tent well, so our guests were very comfortable. The staff was attentive, and the food, as always, was incredible. It's our favorite restaurant in Charlottesville, hands-down!
Cristina at Harvest Moon was an incredible resource to have during our wedding planning process. We didn't hire a planner or day-of coordinator because we had a tight budget, but Cristina was there to walk us through what we needed for rentals, how to schedule our ceremony and reception, and she did a walk-through at the venue with us to review last-minute plans. Not to mention the food from Harvest Moon was phenomenal (and my husband is a chef, so we are pretty picky about food). I also really appreciated that they combine their rentals, service, and food & drink costs all together so you don't have to worry about coordinating communications and payments with a handful of different vendors. Harvest Moon is more than just a catering company, they are your wedding allies and support team!
When we asked about getting a "naked" cake for our fall barn wedding, Tara at sweethaus was so excited to work with us on the concept, and it turned out better than we could have hoped. We ordered a spice cake with apple filling and cream cheese icing- it was absolutely delicious and perfect flavors for the season! Also, the naked cake was a great route to go because it cuts down on the typical costs of a wedding cake since it doesn't require as much piping work. If you're on the fence about ordering your cake from sweethaus, just go try their cupcakes at the shop on West Main and you'll be sold :)
Verulam was fairly new to the Charlottesville wedding scene when we found them last year (here on Borrowed & Blue, actually), and we could not have been happier with our venue choice! It's just minutes from town, which made it much simpler to coordinate transportation and directions for our wedding guests who were staying downtown than, for example, some of the vineyards and other locations we considered that are further away. The bridal suite was absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to get ready with my bridal party. And the scenery at Verulam is absolutely breathtaking. If you've always wanted a rustic, barn wedding but still want an elegant, classy experience for your guests, Verulam is the perfect mix of both.
Daphne is not only an incredible hair stylist and makeup artist, but she was also extremely fun to have around in the bridal suite while we were all getting ready! I did a trial hair/makeup run with Daphne a month or two before the wedding, and I recommend going through that process so you can be sure that you'll like the way you look on the big day. All of my bridesmaids had different ideas for how they wanted their hair to look, and Daphne was able to accommodate everyone's wishes and get them picture-ready under a time crunch.
