About this venue

The Appalachian Wedding Chapel & Boutique is a charming and unique waterfront venue located at 2925 Northwestern Pike in Capon Bridge, WV. Sitting miraculously beside the healing waters of the Cacapon River, and offering both indoor and outdoor ceremonies, it is unlike any other in the mid-Atlantic region. This exquisite riverside location shares space with Basswood, the town of Capon Bridge’s premier Airbnb. Five beautifully appointed suites offer lovely accommodations and the Boutique carries locally crafted ceremonial accessories like handfasting cords, drinking vessels, fine chocolates and unique gifts for all occasions. With a variety of entertainment and dining possibilities within walking distance, or just a short drive to Romney or Winchester Va., couples can easily add a reception to their special day. Owners and officiants, John and Brenda Berry are always happy to connect couples with their trusted vendor partners for music, photography, cakes, catering, and more.

The Chapel Room

Not your grandmother's wedding chapel, the sacred comes in the hearts of our guests.

This space features a boldly painted fireplace, and an eclectic array of comfortable primary seating. High ceilings and dimmable lights, hooks for swags, and original artwork. The Chapel Room joins the Boutique, which houses a beautifully curated collection of ceremonial accessories and gifts. A comfortable covered porch with swing outside makes an ideal space for light refreshments. The Chapel is our primary indoor space and is especially suited for elopements and smaller weddings.

Description

Walk in during business hours (W-Sat, 11:00 - 5:00) or by appointment and we'll perform a short, meaningful and lovely ceremony in the Chapel Room, or outside in the Gazebo overlooking the Cacapon River. Then we sign and return license to the court after the ceremony.

A short and sweet ceremony for small groups of family and friends, our Elopement Mini-mony is an intimate and budget friendly event you'll treasure forever. Even with short ceremonies like these we take extra care to make your wedding meaningful and beautiful. Choose from spiritual / secular or light religious scripts, and let us take care of the rest. By appointment only and a 150.00 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your chosen date.

Short and sweet, choose from a variety of spiritual, light religious and secular ceremonies, incorporating all the traditional elements like the Celebrant’s Words on Love and Marriage, Expression of Intent, Vows and Ring Exchange, Blessing and Pronouncement. Indoors or outdoors, seating included. Large groups may incur additional costs in case of inclement weather. Requires 300.00 deposit to secure your date. Final payment due on day of wedding.

An absolutely wonderful experience. The Berrys are insightful and very observant, and do a really great job of listening to you and understanding what is important to you and your future spouse. As we talked about what we wanted we asked for some special ceremonial aspects specific to us. It was perfectly integrated. We were looking for something a little less traditional but also with the familiar structure so that the more traditional family members would follow along without too much confusion. It was the perfect balance. I honestly I’m just so happy my now wife found the Berrys. There is a lot that goes into a wedding and we can be worried about decorations, and invites, the family politics and food, djs, catering… but the most important part at the end of the day is 30min ceremony where the officiant make you married. I think Jon was just an amazing human and I’m so happy he could stand with us and marry us. I would recommend him to anyone looking to get married.

I cannot recommend John highly enough. He is extremely professional and experienced, crafted a ceremony from our interview and questionnaire responses that perfectly fit our vision, smoothly and calmly guided us through our rehearsal, and did a wonderful job with the ceremony. But beyond that, John is a true artist. If you are looking for a ceremony that is deeply personal, celebrating love and life and drawing on a connection with nature and spirituality, look no further. John does not merely weave words into emotion, he creates a whole world, a little enclave where you and your guests can linger in a moment of pure joy. There was not a dry eye in the room, and every single one of our guests (even my ultra-conservative, traditional, religious family) took time to tell us that the ceremony was the most beautiful, emotional, and heartfelt one they’d attended.

I have photographed several ceremonies performed by this husband & wife team and the couples have had such good things from start to finish to say about this team. I find them to bring a sense of calm to the day and are able to work with all the different personalities that surround a venue (guests/vendors). After first working with Brenda 10 years ago at a wedding, I've been amazed at how well and sincere she performs her role as a wedding officiant. I've worked with her 50 times over the last 24 years and each time, its truly and wonderful experience watching her. From experience, I can honestly recommend her as a wedding officiant and would highly recommend contacting her for yours. My recommendation is to contact her and setup a meeting so you can picture her standing in front of you on your wedding day.

The Appalachian Wedding Chapel is a ceremony only venue. Alcohol is not permitted during the ceremony except for ceremonial purposes. Alcohol is permitted when staying in a room or rooms at Basswood by guests.

Parking is limited and reserved for Basswood guests, however there is abundant parking in front of Basswood and at various nearby, walkable locations. Always best to check with us first.

There is one accessible accommodation in Basswood, but unfortunately the Chapel Room and Boutique are not.

At our primary location, we can support groups up to 50 outdoors and 30 in the Chapel Room. For larger groups we partner with several venues and organizations within walking distance or a short drive nearby. Note: weddings taking place off of AWC grounds may require additional charges.

We have an excellent group of trusted partners in the wedding industry, and can make recommendations for anything you need from photography, to music, flowers, even to dress alterations.

No, we are a ceremony only venue by choice and by the terms of our lease with Basswood as other guests may be staying here during your wedding, and they deserve all of the peace and relaxation that Basswood has to offer. That being said we are in partnership with many nearby locations which can host your reception or after party.

Very nice. And small to be honest, but it is truly one of the most amazing places we've ever known (it's why we moved here) Maybe it is because of the Cacapon River which flows through town, and right by our venue. We think it's that, but it also has a lot to do with The River House which is a local non-profit arts and music venue right down the street. It too sits right on this beautiful river and there is something magical about it, and the people and this community that you simply have to experience to understand. Doesn't hurt that the BEST hamburger you've ever eaten is literally right across the street at the Farmers Daughter.

No, the owners, Brenda and John Berry are both licensed and ordained officiants in WV, VA, and DC.

Yes, but if it is to be a legal wedding, they will need to be licensed by the State of WV and be able to sign and return the marriage license. Alternatively, an unlicensed officiant such as a family member may perform the ceremony and we will be happy to sign and return the document for a small fee - usually 75.00.
