Renowned “movie palace” architect C. Howard Crane designed Detroit’s historic Garden Theater, a commission he earned after he opened his own firm in Detroit in 1908. In addition to the Garden Theater, Crane has 250 theaters to his credit, 62 of which were built in Detroit, like The Majestic, The Fox, Orchestra Hall, the Detroit Opera House, and The Fillmore Detroit. One of the city’s earliest neighborhood theaters, the Garden Theater opened to the public in 1912. With its 900-seat capacity, it was one of the largest theaters built outside downtown; it originally hosted live stage shows and motion pictures. As the name implies, Crane cleverly incorporated vines, birds and other garden-style decorations in its design to immerse patrons in an outdoor-like experience. After decades in ruin, the theater underwent a multi-million-dollar restoration and was rededicated in 2013, a century after its initial debut, as part of Midtown’s vibrant resurgence.

This building was established in 1900 and is found on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by famed architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, who also designed the Boston Public Library and New York City's iconic Washington Square Arch. Their signature grand style is apparent throughout, from the white marble interior to carved colonnades. The walls are further adorned with bronze grillwork. Engagement parties, pre-wedding showers, and rehearsal dinners can also be hosted here.

The outside 40 acre farm formerly were horse pastures now transformed into green luscious grass with choices of Arbors for your ceremonies, beautiful ponds, lots of room for parking, with a farm style like ranch gardens and backdrops with woodsy and scenic views for fantastic wedding photos. This is a very relaxing place to just take your shoes off, dance and enjoy the barn that is more than just a barn.

Plan your wedding on the charming grounds or in the historic 1845 New School church. With exclusive use of Mill Race Village, your wedding can be held any time of the year. In the Church or outside in the gazebo, weather permitting, your ceremony will be a memorable event in this picturesque Victorian setting. A Village Representative will be with you during your event to open and close the church and to keep the public off the grounds of the Village while your wedding is in progress, ensuring your privacy. We began our journey in 2015 with a dusty gravel pit and vision for a new home. The gem was the stunning 30 acre crystal clear lake. After purchasing the property we found ourselves hosting church activities and work functions as people truly loved being here. Slowly we began adding amenities to the property. First a huge rope swing, (that we have since taken down). It was fun watching the kids fly into the water. Then the 110’ water slide kept all the kids smiling as they splashed into the lake. Then in 2020 our daughter was engaged to a great guy. As she began looking for that special place to host her wedding we came to realize that it was right here. We wanted it to be a very special place and we went to work.

The house is available for a “Wedding Week”, checking in on Thursday and checking out on Sunday . This allows time for decorating, organizing, and rehearsal dinner.
