About this venue

South Church is a historic church in downtown Portsmouth, built circa 1825. There are no religious requirements to use the church for your wedding ceremony; you can use the officiant of your choice as long as they are legally allowed to perform a ceremony in the state of New Hampshire. South Church has a complete sound system so that couples and/or officiants can be heard, as well as use of the piano and/or organ, MP3 hookups, and pre-ceremony holding rooms. We work with many local florists, photographers, musicians, and officiants to assure your special day is exactly what you want it to be.

For almost 200 years, couples from around the country have been getting married here, and enjoying all the luxury that downtown Portsmouth has to offer. Description

Wedding rentals at South Church come with use of the space for one hour for a rehearsal the day before the wedding, use of the space for 2 hours on the day of, sound system, use of piano and/or organ, microphones, MP3 hookups, ringing of the church bell, and an attendant.

    We had a beautiful ceremony at South Church, Jen was great to work with. It was also nice that they had such a spacious downstairs waiting area for before the ceremony and for signing the paperwork after. I would recommend finding your own organist as the one who they recommended missed notes as I was walking down the aisle and stopped playing prematurely as the bridal party was walking back. Not a huge issue, just make sure you hear your musician play before the rehearsal! We got married in December and the sanctuary was decorated so beautifully!

    South Church hosted our wedding ceremony. They were so welcoming and made us feel comfortable to do any type of ceremony we wanted. Jen was so organized and easy to work with. The church was beautiful, such a great place to host such a special day!

    We had the pleasure of having our ceremony take place at the breathtaking South Church. We are so glad we decided to have our ceremony there because it was a great experience from beginning to end. Jen was AMAZING to work with! She was very attentive and answered all of our questions with no problems. She was also there during the wedding day to make sure everything goes smoothly. We did not have a day of wedding coordinator, but Jen stepped in and helped us throughout our ceremony and coordinated the timing of the wedding party during the processional. The church also has an organ or a piano that can be used. We had an organist play the organ for our wedding and let me tell you.... it was the most beautiful thing I've heard. Definitely goosebumps when I walked down the aisle lol! We are so thankful for Jen and her professionalism! I 100% recommend this venue to anyone looking for a gorgeous church venue! I guarantee you will have such a smooth and easy planning and wedding with Jen by your side!

    It is a beautiful and welcoming Church - the grand steps leading to the oversized doors, the long aisle, the massive wrought iron chandelier above and the leaded palladian windows along the sides. The organ is wonderful too. There is a community space downstairs which often hosts suppers for different causes. Am important landmark in our city.
