What's Poppin, a Chicago-style popcorn company, is based locally out of Albany, NY. We make all of our popcorn on premises by hand, by real life popcorn enthusiasts. Hi! My name is Ashley Schwartz and I am the owner and baker here at Torta! I enjoyed baking when I was little, especially the times when my family would bake Christmas cookies together, but it wasn't until high school when I took a cake decorating class at Micheal's with my mom and sister that I discovered baking as an art form and truly fell in love. During my senior year, I decided to pursue baking as a career. While I loved working for local businesses, I wanted to be able to connect my baking back to my roots and began to experiment with my own recipes from my childhood. I started selling my baked goods to friends and family.

I was 8 when my mother signed me up for a cake decorating class. It was a life-changing experience. I knew what I wanted to be! Determined to attend the Culinary Institute of America, I convinced restauranteurs in the Rochester, NY, area to give me a chance and started baking "professionally" at 15. Five years later I did it! I graduated from the Culinary Institute of America as a pastry chef. In 1999, Gourmet Goodies was established in Victor, NY. Over the past 20 years I have had the privilege of providing wedding cakes and gourmet pastries to the upstate and western New York area.

With passion and love for food and creativity, our specialty bake shop would be honored to create a cake designed especially for you.
