I'm Steph, a wanderer at heart, but I'm back to my New England roots living in MA with my husband, and our son, two dogs, and a cat. Becoming a mom has changed me in so many ways, and it's given me a new perspective, especially when it comes to taking photographs. We live in such a fast-paced society focused on Instagram "likes" and trends, that I feel as though we often miss the point of this thing called life. I love capturing the "in-between" moments, and making sure you don't feel rushed on your wedding day. I want to bring back the coffee table photo albums and sharing photos and stories, not scrolling through your socials.

Art and storytelling is my passion when it comes to photography, but I'm also all about capturing raw real emotions, candid moments, and photojournalism. Aside from photographing your day, I also help with finding wedding vendors & venues, or location scouting and lodging if you're eloping. Capture the North was founded by multi-award-winning, and published photographer Sarah K. Marshall, and her husband, Christopher Marshall. Both are Marine Corps veterans and native New Englanders. Despite traveling across the world while serving in the Marine Corps, there is still something so magical about the New England area for them. Sarah was named Department of Defense Military Photographer of the Year 2020, and Marine Corps Photographer of the Year 2020 + 2021. Her work has been displayed in the National Museum of the Marine Corps and her imagery was the cover art of Leatherneck Magazine.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved to create. My passion for photography started when I was a teen. As I honed in on my craft I began to photograph on a more professional level right out of high school, but stepped away for academic pursuits. After completing both a bachelors and master's degree in Anthropology, I came full circle, determining that a career in doing something creative was where my heart lies. Whether it is your wedding, or any other special moment in your life, I cherish the opportunity to document it in a way that highlights the artistic elements, while still capturing an authenticness that is uniquely you.

I shot my first wedding in 2004, and from that moment on, I was hooked! It's an honor to witness and capture such an important moment in the lives of my couples. Before specializing in weddings, I focused on fine art and night photography. I earned a BFA degree in studio art from the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!), and a MFA degree in imaging arts/photography from Rochester Institute of Technology. I taught black and white, digital, alternative process and studio photography at the high school, university and adult education levels. I love both the planned events and the unintentional, quiet moments that make a wedding unique!
