After meeting in NYC, Nina & Danny earned their fine art degrees and moved to Denver. In 2009, they combined their passion for photography, and From the Hip Photo was born. For me, photography was a happy accident: I stumbled into it 15 years ago when I worked as the art director of SKI Magazine, and budget cuts dictated we take on more work in-house. Something about it flipped a switch for me, and I eventually started to think more about photography than I did about design. I practiced all the time, taking photos of my family at home, and then of friends' families too. I found so much beauty in capturing moments—an open-mouthed laugh, a playful handhold, a knowing look between a husband and wife—that otherwise would be lost amidst the chaos of life.

My goal is simple. That is to tell your story by focusing on what makes you, YOU! Whether that be your obsession with Game of Thrones, your love for craft beer, or hiking one of Colorado’s many trailheads. I want my couple’s to not be afraid of incorporating their passions, hobbies, and personal style into their wedding day. My background in creative direction is what led me to my career in photography. My roots are in the Midwest, (I grew up in rural Indiana, went to college at Purdue, and lived in Chicago for 8 years.) but Colorado has stolen my heart. One of my favorite things to do when I'm not turning our home into a jungle by adding yet another plant to my collection is watching the sun rise somewhere from the top of a mountain. My little family, which includes my wife, Jenny, our sweet puppy Daisy, and our two silly, rambunctious cats, Jack and Mabel, have loved turning Denver into our home.

I’ve been a photographer for almost a decade. I married the love of my life, Ben and we have an unhealthy obsession with our pup, Avery. I love this job with everything in me. I've worked incredibly hard to learn how to connect with my couples. I’ve found through the years that the more comfortable I can make my couples, the better the photographs. It’s taken years to build up the ‘posing’ banks in my head, learning how to manage timelines, different vendors and strict timelines, all while still delivering amazing galleries.
