The Alta House Event Center is a hidden gem conveniently located off I-80 and 37 minutes East of Des Moines. Three stone arches frame the Amphitheater ceremony space unlike any other. Surrounded by evergreens and framed by woodlands, a pond and a fountain, the Amphitheater will be the perfect setting and has terraced seating for up to 300 guests.

The Pearl, a mid-1800’s style barn, is modeled after a barn on the family farm. Constructed with rough-sawn oak timbers and wooden pegs, it boasts a 30-foot vaulted ceiling and wrap-around loft lighted with iron chandeliers. The timber staircase offers a grand entry for the bride’s debut into the main hall while providing a beautiful backdrop for photos. The Pearl is located on a ridge approximately one mile south of Hamilton on Highway 13, overlooking Tom Creek valley. It is a beautiful sight to behold at sundown any time of the year. Deer, turkey, and other wildlife are frequently seen.

The Old Homestead Event Barn offers you an outdoor wedding ceremony by our farm pond with a pergola and wooden benches. Our farmhouse is used for wedding party staging and our 135 year old barn for your reception. In 1972, 70-year-old Ben Vanderhook tore down old barns in Mahaska County and surrounding counties to create our beautiful barn, located a stone’s throw south of Oskaloosa, Iowa. The 3½ acre property includes a 147×46×60 Quonset hut barn, open fields as well as mature shade trees. At the Barn at Brophy Creek, we are a family run business on a fourth generation farm. Running along the edge of Brophy Creek, the farm was purchased in the 1950's by my grandfather who immigrated from Germany and worked the farm as a hired man when he was 18 years old. The next generation took over and my dad began farming the land. My husband and I moved into the farmhouse where we raised our 4 beautiful children. I’ve stayed on this acreage my entire life. It is my history. Eventually, my dad retired and the buildings began to deteriorate. I knew we had to save these historic buildings and share them with the community, so we got creative and dreamed up the wedding and event venue that Brophy Creek is today. Luckily, my husband is able to take the dreams and visions I have in my head and make them reality. In 2015 we began dreaming it up, tearing it apart, and rebuilding - we've put our lives into this space.
