The Athenaeum is a beautifully preserved antebellum building, now serving as an art gallery. One of only two remaining examples of Neoclassical Greek Revival architecture in Alexandria, its exterior features an impressive portico supported by soaring Doric columns. Oversized windows bring natural light to the main gallery rooms, which boast 24-foot ceilings, wonderful woodwork, and exposed granite walls lined with rotating art exhibits. The name Imperial pays homage to our rich history! The Imperial Hotel stood on the same location as the Holiday Inn from 1870 to 1925 and is the oldest continuous hotel location in the United States. Due to close proximity to the train station, many influential people have stayed at the Imperial including Presidents Abraham Lincoln, William Taft, and Theodore Roosevelt. The historic late 1800’s bank barn has many of the original board siding, only to be replaced in-like when needed. It boasts a very large 4 bay layout with the original chestnut flooring. The board siding allows the light to dance off the beautiful wood floors. It is a privilege for Mark and Karlen to invite you into their treasured barn and grounds.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, our meeting house was constructed in 1930 during the administration of the Quaker president, Herbert Hoover. It was built to serve as a house of worship and a gathering place for those wanting to “seek peace and pursue it.” The building was enlarged in 1950. In 1970, we acquired the red brick Quaker House, Carriage House and garden at 2121 Decatur Place NW. Built in the 1920s and also on the National Register, these buildings today house a number of nonprofit organizations and small businesses as well as additional event spaces. With multiple interior spaces and gardens, we can accommodate events of various sizes and layouts, from 2 to 300. We host individuals, non-profit organizations, and for-profit entities. Our event rental prices are affordable, with discounts offered to non-profit organizations in alignment with our values. The Other Barn is ideal for hosting outdoor wedding ceremonies and indoor wedding receptions on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Other Barn prides itself on being an affordable, local venue while allowing our clients to choose all of their own vendors in order to watch their dreams become a reality on their special day. Clients are required to bring in a licensed caterer of their choice. We offer a full kitchen, a large ice machine, and ice chests. We will set up tables and chairs for you prior to your event, according to a specialized floor plan that you design with our Facility & Rental Coordinator. Table coverings, decorations, and other set-ups will be provided and put in place by the client and their vendors.
